Chandigarh :  Haryana Forest and Environment Minister Rao Narbir Singh stated that slaughterhouses are currently operating as industries and anyone can apply for a license to operate them in accordance with the prescribed regulations and standards. He clarified that the licensing process is completely transparent, and permission is granted only after a joint team of the concerned departments has inspected the prescribed standards.

The Forest and Environment Minister was responding to a question posed by MLA Choudhary Maman Khan during Question Hour during the budget session of the Haryana Legislative Assembly today. He informed that the team formed to monitor the operation of slaughterhouses includes the Regional Officer of the Environment Department, the Deputy Director of the Animal Husbandry Department, and an officer of the Agriculture Department, who conduct periodic inspections and submit the necessary reports.

He informed that a joint inspection was conducted on February 18, 2026, to collect samples of contaminated water around slaughterhouses in Nuh district. Based on the inspection report, no waterlogged areas containing animal blood were found in standing crops.

The Minister also clarified that the “zero liquid discharge” provision does not apply to slaughterhouse units. He stated that the state government is fully committed to environmental protection and ensures action is taken as per the rules if any irregularities are found.
