New Delhi : Chief Minister Rekha Gupta inaugurated the Centre for Advanced Research in Bacteriophage and Infectious Diseases (CARBID) at VIT, Vellore, marking a significant step towards strengthening India’s research capabilities in infectious diseases.
The centre has been established with the support of the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and is expected to advance research in bacteriophage science and infectious diseases while helping translate scientific discoveries into practical public-health solutions.
CARBID will provide an advanced platform for researchers to work on emerging challenges related to infectious diseases and explore innovative approaches that can potentially support disease prevention and treatment.
Speaking on the occasion, Rekha Gupta highlighted the importance of developing a strong scientific ecosystem that connects research and innovation with the needs of society. She said India’s scientific progress should not only address challenges faced by its own people but also contribute solutions with relevance for the wider world.
The establishment of CARBID is expected to strengthen collaboration between research institutions, scientists and public-health stakeholders, while supporting India’s efforts to develop indigenous capabilities in advanced biomedical research.
