India Expands Energy Outreach to United Arab Emirates, Qatar and Mauritius Amid Regional Developments

-MEA Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal Outlines India’s Multi-Nation Push to Secure Energy and Strengthen Gulf Ties

New Delhi : Randhir Jaiswal, Official Spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs, stated that India is closely monitoring the evolving situation in West Asia and remains actively engaged with countries in the Gulf region. He emphasized that, under the direction of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Indian ministers are undertaking visits to Gulf nations to further strengthen the country’s energy security.

He informed that External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar is currently on a visit to Mauritius and is scheduled to travel to the United Arab Emirates on April 11–12, 2026. During his visit, he will hold discussions with UAE leadership to enhance bilateral ties and deepen strategic cooperation between the two nations.

Highlighting India’s regional support initiatives, Jaiswal noted that even as the country works to secure its own energy requirements, it is also extending assistance to neighboring countries. He cited that India supplied 38 metric tons of petroleum products to Sri Lanka two weeks ago. Additionally, a government-to-government agreement is being finalized with Mauritius for the supply of oil and gas, which is expected to significantly bolster the island nation’s energy security.

The spokesperson also mentioned that Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas Hardeep Singh Puri is currently on a visit to Qatar on April 9–10. He underscored Qatar’s importance as a key energy partner for India and noted that Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi has reaffirmed the country’s commitment to remain a reliable energy supplier, while expressing readiness to further strengthen energy cooperation with India.
