New Delhi : Sujata Sharma, Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, stated that there is no shortage of fuel supplies across the country, with LPG distributors and petrol pumps maintaining adequate stock levels to meet current demand.
She informed that domestic LPG supply continues to remain stable, with nearly 98 percent of bookings being processed online, ensuring seamless access for consumers. The supply of commercial LPG has also shown significant recovery and is currently operating at around 70 percent of normal levels. Since March 14, approximately 1.06 lakh tonnes of commercial LPG have been supplied, with daily sales ranging between 6,000 and 6,500 tonnes.
Highlighting the support measures taken by the government, she noted that the supply of 5 kg LPG cylinders without requiring identification has been doubled. Around one lakh such cylinders are being distributed daily, with nearly 11 lakh sold since March 23. Additionally, over 2,400 awareness camps have been conducted to keep consumers informed about supply availability and efficient usage.
In the natural gas segment, priority is being given to domestic consumption. At the same time, supply to industries has been restored to about 80 percent, while the fertiliser sector is receiving nearly 95 percent of its required gas supply. Efforts are also underway to encourage a transition from LPG to piped natural gas (PNG) to promote more efficient and sustainable energy use.
Overall, she emphasized that coordinated efforts by the government and stakeholders have ensured stability in fuel supply while effectively supporting both households and key industrial sectors.
