Gurugram : Rockford Convent Sr. Sec. School conducted House Election on Saturday , 19^th  May for the present year . Like a general election many student candidates filed their nominations and exhibited their election manifesto for the year 2018-19 . The polling was done through secret ballot paper. The election committee declared Priya as the Captain of XII B DORIAN HOUSE, Gaurav for XII B JORDEN HOUSE, Deepansu for X B RONALDO HOUSE  and Ronak for X A TENDULKAR HOUS.  Mukesh Dagar, Director ,Rockford Convent Sr. Sec. School , Neeta Dagar, Manager and Renu Chauhan Principal of the school congratulated all elected representatives. The main aim to conduct these elections is to promote democratic values and spirit among students as well as to enable the students to understand their rights, duties and responsibilities. The concept behind this is to empower and train them to become future leaders of the country . 

The teachers as well as students were equally enthusiastic about the event. The students had to vote according to their houses i.e. Dorian House, Jorden House, Ronaldo House, Tendulkar House. The elections were held for the following categories- Captain, Vice Captain, Activity Incharge, Sports Incharge, Discipline Incharge  and Health and Cleanliness Incharge. More than 100 students filed their nominations in different categories.

The students were given opportunities to nominate themselves for taking part in the elections a few days prior from the final day of voting . These nominees like a leader presented their manifestos in front of all the students of various classes. Each class witnessed a good number of student candidates who were confident to become the representatives of their houses.

On the day of elections, one by one the students entered into the school playground that was converted into a polling station with all electoral facilities like tables and chairs for the election staff and ballot boxes which were made by the students itself. At the table of the election staff voter students received ballot paper to express their choice of candidates. They waited for their turn before being escorted to the polling booth, where they could make their choice in the utmost privacy. The teachers were standing by to help them and . Everything was executed like a general election of the country . It was planed accordingly .

The candidates campaigned with lots of enthusiasm during recent days. They prepared many creative posters for campaign according to their category and placed all over the school. All the candidates were promoting peaceful values, showing their willingness to contribute in improving  the life of their fellows during the school year.

There were several promises made by the various candidates. One of them said that “ I’m running for head of the student council ‘President’ -My vision is to improve the school and make peace between the students”. Another candidate claimed that she wouldn’t make false promises but that she believed in the wisdom of the students, she would try her best to fulfil what everyone wants.”

Just after completion of the polling  the process of counting began . The teachers of this were assigned to count the votes. There was great excitement and curiosity all around. The results were finally declared to the eager students and teachers alike.

On the auspicious day of 22^nd May 2018 the result was declared and the investiture ceremony was held to initiate and honour the newly elected student council members for the year 2018-19

The oath taking ceremony was led by the school Principal Renu Chauhan ,where the students promise to uphold the ethos and motto of this great institution pledging to take it to even greater heights. On this occasion she said that it is indeed a milestone in their lives. They make a vow to always keep the faith to stand for what is just right , to be upright and honest in all their actions and to keep the Rockford’s banner flying high.

The badge of honour and sash was donned on the students council members by  Mukesh Dagar, Director of the school and Neeta Dagar, Manager of the school.  Addressing all elected student leaders Mr Dagar, Director  said that a leader is one who knows the way, goes the way and shows the way. He opined that this opportunity will make a student perfect for this world. Now a days the competitive world needs a person having leading ability and versatile profile. He Promised that  Rockford Convent Sr. Sec. School is in effort to provide all such facilities and guide needed to be grommed. He advised all to be disciplined and co-ordial during performing their responsibilities.

Neeta Dagar, Manager of the school inspired all newly elected student representatives to develop the spirit of true leadership expected of worthy citizens . She said ” we hope that the new school year will run smoothly with the new elected student council.”  The students voters, teachers and members of the school management gave them a cheerful applause and wished a successful tenure.
