New Delhi : In a unique grassroots initiative aimed at empowering children from tribal communities, NMDC has launched Summer Camps across 17 villages in Dantewada district from May 20 to June 15, 2026.
The initiative is expected to engage nearly 1,700 children during their summer vacations through activities focused on experiential learning, creativity, and sports. While camps are already operational in most villages, efforts are underway to further increase participation. Currently, each camp records a daily attendance of around 30 to 40 children.
The camps provide children with three to four hours of engaging activities, including reading sessions, craftwork, music workshops, and traditional outdoor games such as frisbee, kabaddi, and kho-kho. Nutritious refreshments are also provided to the participants.
The programme is being implemented in partnership with WOSCA, an organisation working in the field of education and community development. Together, they are creating a safe, supportive, and encouraging environment for children in the Bastar region.
In many rural and tribal areas where access to structured creative learning opportunities remains limited, NMDC’s initiative seeks to bridge the gap by nurturing talent and aspirations at the grassroots level. As part of its broader commitment to village development, the initiative also focuses on enhancing social, creative, and interpersonal skills among children from underserved communities.
The Summer Camps have received an encouraging response from children, parents, and local communities. With participation steadily increasing, NMDC has urged families and community stakeholders to actively support the initiative and help make the programme a meaningful and enriching experience for children across Dantewada.
