The university currently has over 14 lakh students, with a large number coming from rural areas and many being women, making it an important institution for inclusive education.

The Vice President noted that during the COVID-19 pandemic, IGNOU successfully continued education using digital platforms like SWAYAM and e-GyanKosh. He also welcomed the introduction of flexible courses under the National Education Policy (NEP), including four-year undergraduate programmes with multiple exit options.

He highlighted the growing importance of technologies like Artificial Intelligence in education, saying they can improve learning but should be used responsibly. He encouraged students to continue learning throughout life and contribute to nation-building.

During the event, he launched digital certificates on DigiLocker, an alumni portal with over 50 lakh registrations, and SWAYAM Prabha studios at regional centres across the country.
