New Delhi : The conflict between Iran and Israel continues to intensify, raising concerns over maritime security in the Gulf region. In a fresh incident, a Thai cargo vessel was attacked while passing through the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz, leaving the ship heavily damaged and several crew members unaccounted for.
According to reports, the cargo ship Mayuree Naree came under attack on Wednesday while sailing through the narrow shipping route. The vessel had departed from Khalifa Port in the United Arab Emirates and was headed for Kandla Port in India when the incident occurred.
The Royal Thai Navy confirmed that the ship, owned by Thai shipping company Precious Shipping PCL, was carrying 23 crew members at the time of the attack. Rescue teams have managed to save 20 of them, while three crew members are still reported missing.
Images released by the navy show thick black smoke rising from the vessel, with emergency life rafts floating nearby in the water. Authorities stated that the exact circumstances surrounding the attack are still being investigated.
Officials also noted that no group has so far claimed responsibility for the assault, which comes amid heightened tensions in the region due to the ongoing Iran–Israel conflict. The incident has further raised concerns about the safety of commercial shipping through one of the world’s most important oil and trade routes.
