Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi and MP Priyanka Gandhi Meet Malaysian PM Anwar Ibrahim Over Breakfast in New Delhi

New Delhi: Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi and Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra met Malaysian Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim over breakfast in New Delhi on Sunday during his visit to India for the 18th BRICS Summit.

The Congress shared photographs of the meeting on social media platform X, highlighting the interaction between the Malaysian Prime Minister and the two Congress leaders.

During his BRICS visit, Anwar Ibrahim participated in the session on “Strengthening Inclusive Global Governance and Multilateralism” along with other BRICS leaders. He also joined the leaders in a tree-planting programme in New Delhi and attended the gala dinner hosted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday evening.

The Malaysian Prime Minister also held separate bilateral meetings with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and Russian President Vladimir Putin on the sidelines of the summit.

During his meeting with PM Modi, the two leaders reaffirmed their commitment to advancing the India–Malaysia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. Anwar Ibrahim also conveyed Malaysia’s agreement to establish an Indian Consulate in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, an important step towards strengthening consular and people-to-people ties.

According to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), Prime Minister Modi warmly welcomed Anwar Ibrahim to India and appreciated Malaysia’s participation in BRICS as a partner country. The leaders reviewed progress following PM Modi’s February 2026 visit to Malaysia and discussed cooperation across several sectors, including trade, investment, defence and security, semiconductors, infrastructure, digital economy, energy, fintech, education, tourism and people-to-people ties.

The two leaders also exchanged views on key regional and global developments. Prime Minister Modi appreciated Malaysia’s continued support in strengthening India–ASEAN relations, underlining the importance of closer cooperation between India and Southeast Asian countries.
