Gurugram : In a strict action against the improper disposal of biomedical waste, the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram has imposed a fine of ₹10,000 on Devraj Clinic, located on Pataudi Road, and recovered the amount on the spot. The action followed a complaint about medical waste being dumped in a public place, after which a civic team inspected the site and confirmed the violation.

Officials said that biomedical waste—such as used syringes, bandages, medicines and other medical materials—poses a serious public health risk if discarded in open areas. Improper disposal can lead to the spread of infections and diseases, while also harming the environment. The civic body reiterated that safe and scientific disposal of biomedical waste is both a legal requirement and a crucial measure for public safety.

Meanwhile, Pradeep Dahiya, Commissioner of the Municipal Corporation, recently held a meeting with representatives of the Indian Medical Association to emphasise compliance with biomedical waste management rules. Healthcare institutions, including hospitals and clinics, have been instructed to ensure that biomedical waste is disposed of only through authorised agencies.

Authorities have also made it mandatory for healthcare facilities to enter into agreements with approved vendors for the regular collection and safe disposal of medical waste. Officials warned that any negligence or violation of these regulations would attract penalties and legal action.

The civic administration has appealed to residents and healthcare establishments in Gurugram to cooperate in maintaining cleanliness and public safety. Citizens have been urged to report any instances of biomedical waste being dumped in public places so that prompt action can be taken.
