Flight Disruptions Mount as West Asia Tensions Rise; Air India Cancels Several Routes

New Delhi :Amid escalating tensions following US-Israeli strikes on Iran, several countries have closed their airspace, causing widespread disruption to global flight operations. Air India has announced that it will continue operating flights to North America and Europe via alternative routes through available airspace in West Asia.

The airline said that six flights to various European destinations will be cancelled on Monday (March 2). On Sunday, the carrier had already cancelled 50 international flights. It also confirmed that all services to and from United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Israel, and Qatar will remain suspended until 11:59 pm (IST) on March 2.

In a statement posted on X (Twitter) on Sunday, Air India said the cancelled flights for Monday include Amritsar–Birmingham (AI 117), Birmingham–Delhi (AI 114), Delhi–Zurich (AI 151 and AI 152), and Delhi–Copenhagen (AI 157 and AI 158).

The airline apologised for the inconvenience caused to passengers and expressed hope that the situation will normalise soon. It added that affected passengers are being informed through their registered contact details, while assistance is being provided for rebooking and alternative travel arrangements. Passengers have been advised to check the airline’s official website or contact its 24×7 call centre for the latest updates. Air India also stated that the situation in the region is being closely monitored and further updates will be issued as required.

Meanwhile, IndiGo said it is closely monitoring the evolving situation in the Middle East and surrounding regions. In a post on X, the airline acknowledged the inconvenience faced by passengers and assured that all operational decisions are being taken with careful consideration and safety as the top priority.
