Gurugram : On the occasion of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, a special seminar focusing on building a drug-free society and raising awareness about HIV, AIDS and tuberculosis (TB) was organised at the auditorium of the Recruit Training Centre (RTC), Bhondsi.
The programme was held under the instructions of Additional Director General of Police (RTC, Bhondsi) K.K. Rao and the guidance of Superintendent of Police Dr. Anshu Singla.
Health experts from the Civil Hospital, Gurugram, including Deputy Civil Surgeon Dr. Ranjana Malhotra and Dr. Arun Saini, delivered detailed sessions on HIV, AIDS and TB awareness. They explained that AIDS is not a single disease but a collection of conditions that occur when the immune system is severely weakened by HIV infection.
The experts highlighted that HIV spreads through unprotected sexual contact, use of infected needles or blades, transfusion of infected blood, and from an infected mother to her child during pregnancy or childbirth. They stressed that awareness, timely testing and preventive care remain the most effective ways to curb the spread of the infection.
They also informed participants about the “TB-Mukt Bharat” mobile application, which provides information related to tuberculosis detection, treatment and prevention.
Personnel from RTC Bhondsi, including indoor and outdoor staff, AWT course trainees, and personnel from the 1st Battalion IRB, participated in the awareness programme and were sensitised about preventive measures against HIV, AIDS and TB.
Earlier in the day, Amit Kumar of RTC Bhondsi flagged off an awareness marathon at 7 am, in which RTC officers, staff, trainees and IRB personnel participated enthusiastically, spreading the message of a drug-free and health-conscious society.
On the occasion, mementos were presented to the guest speakers and the Civil Hospital team as a token of appreciation.
