New Delhi : Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports, Mansukh Mandaviya, today felicitated the Indian contingent for their outstanding performance at the Bangkok 2026 World Archery Para Series, held from March 30 to April 4 in Bangkok.
Praising the athletes, the Minister commended the team for securing the top position in the medal tally and achieving a remarkable feat by winning double the number of medals compared to the second-placed country. He noted that such achievements bring immense pride to the nation, emphasizing that every victory by Indian athletes is a victory for the entire country.
The prestigious tournament witnessed participation from 21 countries and 113 athletes, with strong representation from Asia and the Pan-American regions. India emerged as the dominant force, finishing at the top of the medal table with an impressive haul of 13 medals, including 7 gold, 3 silver, and 3 bronze. Indonesia secured the second position with 6 medals, while Thailand finished third with 5.
Highlighting the broader significance of this achievement, Dr. Mandaviya stated that the athletes embody the spirit of a rising India and that their performances will help shape the future of the country’s sporting legacy. He also expressed confidence that such success would raise expectations for upcoming international competitions, including the Asian Games, urging athletes to continue striving for excellence.
The Indian contingent comprised 39 members, including 21 athletes, 5 coaches, 3 support staff, and 10 escorts, who delivered a dominant performance across multiple categories. Their participation and preparatory training were supported under government initiatives, reflecting a structured approach to nurturing talent in para sports.
Among the standout performers was Payal Nag, the world’s first quadruple amputee para archer, who secured a gold medal in her category, showcasing exceptional determination and skill. Fellow archer Sheetal Devi also expressed pride in the team’s achievement, highlighting the emotional moments of seeing the Indian tricolour being hoisted and hearing the national anthem multiple times during the event.

Coach Abhilasha Chaudhary noted that India’s dominance was evident not only in medal count but also in its growing global presence in sports. Another team member, Shyam Sunder Swami, remarked that India’s strong reputation preceded its participation, with competing nations closely monitoring Indian athletes, anticipating stiff competition.
Reaffirming the government’s commitment, the Minister emphasized continued support for para-athletes through structured funding, world-class training facilities, and increased international exposure. He encouraged athletes to maintain their momentum and work towards achieving even greater success in future global events.
The felicitation ceremony was also attended by senior officials from the Archery Association of India, including Secretary General Virendra Sachdeva and Gautam Abrol.
