Chandigarh / New Delhi : Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini has directed officials to ensure that no government school student in the state is forced to sit on floor mats after the summer vacation, instructing the School Education Department to provide adequate desks in all schools and strengthen basic infrastructure.

Chairing a review meeting on the Technical Education and School Education Departments’ roadmap under Haryana Vision-2047 at the Haryana Civil Secretariat, the Chief Minister said the state views education not merely as a means to earn degrees but as the foundation for skills, employment, innovation and nation-building.

He directed officials to improve school infrastructure by strengthening boundary walls, sanitation facilities and campus beautification. During the meeting, officials informed him that 1,065 laboratories are being established with Central Government support. The Chief Minister instructed the department to increase the number to 2,000 to ensure wider access to digital and science education.

Emphasising the state’s vision for education, Mr. Saini said Haryana aims to build a modern, quality-driven and employment-oriented education system that prepares students to compete globally while making the state a leading centre for education and skill development.

Reviewing the Technical Education Department, the Chief Minister stressed the need to align education with industry requirements. Referring to the proposed development of 10 Industrial Model Townships (IMTs) in Haryana, he directed officials to redesign curricula based on current and future industrial needs and introduce short-term, industry-specific skill courses in collaboration with the private sector.

He also instructed the department to improve the quality, rankings and performance of Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs), polytechnic colleges and other technical institutions by introducing regular assessment mechanisms to ensure continuous improvement.

Polytechnic colleges to get infrastructure upgrade

The Chief Minister reviewed the progress of four new polytechnic colleges being established in the state and directed officials to modernise existing institutes with advanced machinery and upgraded infrastructure. He said quality technical education requires not only new buildings but also modern equipment and technology that prepare students for emerging industries.

Focus on innovation and entrepreneurship

The meeting also reviewed the performance of incubation centres and startups supported by educational institutions. Mr. Saini directed officials to create clean, green and inspiring campuses and share the success stories of startups with students to encourage innovation and entrepreneurship among the youth.

School education to focus on quality and accountability

Reviewing the School Education Department, the Chief Minister directed officials to improve both academic standards and infrastructure. He ordered the formation of vigilance committees to monitor the quality of construction work, laboratories and other school facilities through surprise inspections and direct interaction with students.

He said the department’s objective should be to bring measurable improvements in learning outcomes rather than merely creating administrative systems.

The Chief Minister also reviewed the implementation of the weekly cleanliness period introduced in schools to promote hygiene and social responsibility. Officials informed him that the initiative has already been implemented and that the Haryana State Song is now being sung during morning assemblies. He directed that students actively participating in cleanliness and social awareness activities be recognised with certificates.
