New Delhi : The Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana (PMBJP) was launched with the objective of making quality generic medicines available at affordable prices to citizens across the country. As of 30 November 2025, a total of 17,610 Jan Aushadhi Kendras (JAKs) have been opened nationwide, marking a significant expansion from just 80 Kendras in 2014. This information was provided by the Union Minister of State for Chemicals and Fertilizers, Smt. Anupriya Patel, in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha today.
With a view to further expanding the reach of the scheme, the Government has set a target of opening 25,000 Jan Aushadhi Kendras by March 2027.
Awareness regarding the availability and quality of affordable medicines under the scheme has grown steadily, leading to increased consumer confidence in Janaushadhi products. This has been reflected in rising sales volumes and an expanding product basket, improving the commercial viability of JAKs and encouraging greater participation from entrepreneurs. During the last financial year, the number of JAKs registered a 37 per cent increase, while the maximum retail price (MRP) value of sales grew by 38 per cent under the scheme.
Jan Aushadhi Kendras are opened by inviting online applications from individual entrepreneurs, non-governmental organisations, societies, trusts, firms and private companies across the country, including Andhra Pradesh, through the official website www.janaushadhi.gov.in.
