New Delhi: India has rejected claims made by a former Japanese minister blaming New Delhi for delays in the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail (MAHSR) project, commonly known as the bullet train project, stating that such remarks represent an individual opinion and do not reflect the actual status of the project.

Responding to the social media post by the former Japanese minister, Randhir Jaiswal, Official Spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), said that India had taken note of the comments but clarified that they were “at considerable variance with facts.”

During the weekly media briefing, Jaiswal said, “We have seen the post. This is an individual opinion and at considerable variance with facts. India-Japan discussions on Mumbai-Ahmedabad HSR are progressing well.”

The MEA spokesperson highlighted that India and Japan continue to engage constructively on the high-speed rail initiative, which is a flagship symbol of the India-Japan strategic partnership.

The Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail Corridor is being developed with Japanese technology and cooperation, including the deployment of Japan’s advanced Shinkansen-based systems. The project is aimed at transforming India’s rail connectivity, introducing world-class infrastructure, and enhancing future mobility solutions.

India’s response underlined that bilateral discussions between the two countries remain positive and focused on ensuring the successful implementation of this landmark infrastructure project.
