Jind (Haryana) : In a significant milestone for India’s railway sector and clean mobility mission, Prime Minister Narendra Modi flagged off the country’s first hydrogen-powered train from Jind, Haryana, marking a major step towards sustainable and environmentally friendly transportation.
The hydrogen-powered train has been designed, engineered and integrated in India using indigenous technology, showcasing the country’s growing capabilities in advanced railway innovation and clean energy solutions.
With this achievement, India has joined the select group of nations operating hydrogen-powered trains, strengthening its position in the global clean mobility landscape.
The train uses advanced hydrogen fuel cell technology to generate electricity onboard, enabling operations with zero carbon emissions, thereby contributing towards India’s commitment to reducing its environmental footprint.
The new hydrogen train is also among the world’s longest hydrogen-powered passenger trains and is equipped with one of the most powerful hydrogen-based propulsion systems currently in operation. The launch represents a major leap towards a cleaner, greener and self-reliant India, aligning with the vision of sustainable development, energy innovation and Atmanirbhar Bharat in the transport sector.
