New Delhi : Prime Minister Narendra Modi today participated in the Laksha Kantha Gita Parayana program at Sri Krishna Matha in Udupi, Karnataka, a devotional gathering where one lakh participants recited the Srimad Bhagavad Gita together. Speaking on the occasion, he said that the divine darshan of Lord Krishna, the spiritual resonance of the Gita, and the presence of revered saints and gurus brought him immense spiritual joy and blessings.
Recalling his recent visit to Kurukshetra, the land of the Gita, PM Modi said that coming to Udupi, sanctified by Lord Krishna and Jagadguru Madhvacharya, was a deeply fulfilling experience. He highlighted the historical and spiritual significance of Udupi, noting the connection between Gujarat and Udupi, and the consecration of Lord Krishna’s idol by Jagadguru Madhvacharya, which continues to inspire millions.
The Prime Minister praised Udupi as the birthplace of the governance model of Jan Sangh and BJP, recalling pioneering initiatives in sanitation, water supply, and urban planning decades ago that have become part of national development priorities.
PM Modi emphasized that the collective chanting of the Gita by one lakh people generates a unique spiritual energy, which strengthens both personal and social unity. He lauded Param Pujya Shri Sugunendra Tirtha Swamiji for initiating the Koti Gita Lekhana Yajna, a global movement encouraging youth to write the Gita by hand, connecting the next generation to India’s spiritual heritage.
Linking spirituality to governance, PM Modi explained how teachings of Lord Krishna and Jagadguru Madhvacharya inspire policies like Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Ayushman Bharat, PM Awas, Nari Shakti Vandan, Vaccine Maitri, and Solar Alliance, highlighting the enduring relevance of the Gita in guiding social welfare and national security.
The Prime Minister also announced nine resolutions for citizens, urging them to:

PM Modi inaugurated the Suvarna Teertha Mantapa in front of the Krishna sanctum and dedicated the Kanaka Kavacha (golden cover) for the sacred Kanakana Kindi, the window through which saint Kanakadasa had the divine darshan of Lord Krishna.
He highlighted that Udupi, with its spiritual and cultural heritage, plays a significant role in guiding India’s youth toward values, service, and nation-building. PM Modi concluded by expressing hope that the spiritual energy of Udupi continues to inspire the journey toward a developed India.

Background:
Sri Krishna Matha in Udupi, established over 800 years ago by Sri Madhvacharya, the founder of Dvaita Vedanta, hosted the Laksha Kantha Gita Parayana, bringing together 100,000 devotees, students, monks, and scholars to recite the Bhagavad Gita in unison.
