New Delhi : The Embassy of India in Switzerland and the Principality of Liechtenstein hosted celebrations marking India’s 80th Independence Day in Bern, highlighting the growing partnership and people-to-people ties between India and Switzerland.
In his welcome address, Ambassador Kumar reflected on India’s remarkable journey and the enduring strength of the India-Switzerland partnership, built on shared values, expanding exchanges and close friendship between the two countries.
Ambassador Markus Leitner, Head of the Asia Pacific Division at the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs, attended the celebrations as the Chief Guest.
Speaking on the occasion, Leitner highlighted the significance of the India-EFTA Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement (TEPA), which came into force last year, and its role in enhancing cooperation between India and Switzerland across various sectors of mutual interest.
Niklaus Samuel Gugger, Member of the Swiss National Council from the Canton of Zurich and a member of the Swiss-India Parliamentary Friendship Group, also emphasised the growing people-to-people connect between the two countries.
The celebrations underscored the strengthening of India-Switzerland relations, with expanding trade and economic cooperation, parliamentary exchanges and people-to-people ties emerging as key pillars of the bilateral partnership.
