New Delhi: India and Lesotho held the 6th Meeting of the Joint Bilateral Commission for Cooperation (JBCC) on July 30 in New Delhi, reviewing the full spectrum of bilateral relations and reaffirming their commitment to further strengthening cooperation across diverse sectors.
The meeting was co-chaired by Shri Janesh Kain, Joint Secretary (East & Southern Africa), Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), Government of India, and Mr. Thabang Lekhela, Principal Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Relations of the Kingdom of Lesotho.
During the meeting, the two sides undertook a comprehensive review of the India-Lesotho partnership and assessed the progress made in various areas of bilateral cooperation.
The discussions focused particularly on development cooperation, capacity building, Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR), and collaboration in multilateral forums, including the United Nations and other international organisations.
Both delegations reviewed the implementation of ongoing development partnership initiatives and explored opportunities to further enhance cooperation in areas of mutual interest. They also discussed ways to strengthen capacity-building programmes aimed at supporting Lesotho’s developmental priorities through training, technical assistance, and institutional cooperation.
The two sides reaffirmed their commitment to expanding cooperation in the field of Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) and acknowledged the importance of coordinated efforts in responding to humanitarian challenges and natural disasters.
India and Lesotho also exchanged views on regional and global issues of common interest and reiterated their commitment to working closely at the United Nations and other international fora to promote shared priorities and strengthen multilateral cooperation.
The meeting underscored the warm and friendly relations between India and Lesotho and reaffirmed the resolve of both countries to further deepen their bilateral partnership through sustained dialogue, development cooperation, capacity building, and enhanced engagement at regional and global platforms.
