New Delhi: Chief of the Army Staff General Dhiraj Seth on Friday launched the indigenously developed Xtreme Weather Grade (XWG) Diesel, a specialised fuel designed to enhance the operational capability of the Indian Army’s vehicles in extreme weather conditions.
The advanced fuel has been developed jointly by the Indian Army and Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) as part of efforts to strengthen indigenous defence capabilities and improve logistical support for military operations in challenging environments.
The Xtreme Weather Grade Diesel has been specifically formulated to ensure the reliable performance of combat and logistics vehicles operating in areas experiencing extreme climatic conditions, including high-altitude regions and severely cold environments where conventional diesel may face performance limitations.
According to the Army, the specialised fuel will significantly enhance the mobility, safety, and operational availability of military vehicles deployed in difficult terrain and adverse weather conditions. It is expected to improve engine performance, ensure smoother vehicle operations, and increase mission readiness during critical operations.
The launch of the indigenous fuel marks another step towards strengthening India’s defence logistics through home-grown technological solutions and reducing dependence on imported specialised products.
The initiative also reflects the close collaboration between the Indian Army and Oil Marketing Companies in developing innovative, mission-specific technologies to meet the operational requirements of the Armed Forces.
The introduction of Xtreme Weather Grade Diesel is expected to improve the Indian Army’s operational preparedness, particularly in strategically important border areas where harsh climatic conditions pose significant logistical and mobility challenges.
