Partnership Covers Joint PhD Supervision, Research Projects, Student-Faculty Exchanges and Access to Research Facilities

New Delhi : The Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) and the Academy of Scientific and Innovative Research (AcSIR) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at creating deeper academic and research linkages between the two institutions.

The agreement provides a structured framework for collaborative research, joint supervision of postgraduate research students and academic exchanges involving students, research scholars and faculty members of IIT Delhi and AcSIR-associated research institutes.

The partnership brings together IIT Delhi’s academic and technological expertise with the extensive research ecosystem of institutions affiliated with AcSIR, opening up opportunities for researchers and students to access specialised facilities, interact with experts from different disciplines and undertake research beyond their respective campuses.

Joint Supervision for Postgraduate Research

One of the key provisions of the MoU is joint supervision of PhD, M.Tech. and MS(R) students. Under the arrangement, students participating in the collaborative programme will have at least one supervisor from IIT Delhi and another from an AcSIR-associated research institute.

The agreement will also enable students, research scholars and faculty members to undertake academic and research visits at the partner institution, encouraging greater interaction and knowledge sharing.

Students from IIT Delhi and AcSIR will have the opportunity to pursue coursework and research at either institution without having to seek separate admission or pay tuition fees to the host institution.

Connecting IIT Delhi with a Wider Research Network

The collaboration will also facilitate joint research between IIT Delhi faculty and researchers from AcSIR-associated institutions, including CSIR and ICMR research institutes, in areas of common interest.

Joint research projects will provide students and faculty access to a broader pool of scientific expertise and infrastructure, while also creating scope for research with potential applications in industry and society.

Prof. Rangan Banerjee, Director, IIT Delhi, said the partnership would move beyond conventional exchange programmes and establish a platform for sustained interaction among researchers.

He said bringing together the capabilities and infrastructure of IIT Delhi and CSIR research laboratories would allow students and faculty to exchange ideas, address challenging research questions and work towards solutions to important societal issues.

Prof. Manoj K. Dhar, Director, AcSIR, said the agreement would make the research infrastructure and expertise available across IIT and AcSIR faculties accessible to a wider community of students and researchers.

He highlighted the opportunity for students to work on research problems with strong industrial relevance, describing the partnership as a significant model for collaboration between AcSIR and IITs.

Senior Officials Attend MoU Ceremony

The MoU signing ceremony was attended by senior representatives of both institutions, including the Directors, Deans, Associate Deans and Heads of Departments.

The two institutions also made presentations outlining their respective academic programmes, research activities and institutional strengths, setting the stage for identifying further areas of cooperation under the newly established framework.
