New Delhi/New York: India has strongly voiced its concerns over the functioning of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), stating that the global body has failed to respond effectively to several ongoing conflicts and prevent humanitarian suffering around the world.

India’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador P. Harish, highlighted that the Security Council’s inability to stop wars and provide effective solutions to global crises has weakened public confidence in the United Nations system.

Addressing the issue, Ambassador Harish emphasised that the credibility and effectiveness of the UNSC depend on its ability to act decisively, uphold international peace and security, and respond to the challenges faced by people affected by conflicts.

India reiterated the need for meaningful reforms in the UN Security Council to make it more representative, inclusive, and capable of addressing present-day global realities.

The remarks come amid growing international discussions on strengthening multilateral institutions and ensuring that global governance mechanisms are better equipped to deal with emerging security and humanitarian challenges.
