New Delhi: Afghanistan’s Agriculture Minister Mawlawi Ataullah Omari’s recent visit to India has opened new avenues for cooperation in the agriculture sector and strengthening bilateral trade ties between the two countries, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said.
MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal informed that the Afghan minister stayed in India for nearly a week and held a series of high-level meetings with key Indian stakeholders. During his visit, Mawlawi Ataullah Omari met India’s Agriculture Minister, Food Processing Minister, and Minister of State for External Affairs Pabitra Margherita to discuss opportunities for collaboration in agriculture and allied sectors.
The Afghan delegation also participated in several business interactions with leading industry bodies, including FICCI, the PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry, along with various national and international organisations associated with agriculture.
Highlighting the importance of trade connectivity between the two nations, Randhir Jaiswal said that the Delhi-Kabul air freight corridor is currently operational and playing an important role in facilitating the movement of goods between India and Afghanistan.
He said that through this air freight route, trade activities are continuing between the two countries, providing a platform for Afghan agricultural products and other commodities to access Indian markets while supporting bilateral economic engagement.
The visit reflects ongoing efforts by both nations to enhance cooperation in agriculture, food processing, and commercial exchanges, despite the evolving regional environment. India and Afghanistan have historically shared strong people-to-people and economic ties, with agriculture remaining a key area of mutual interest.
