New Delhi/Hiroshima, Japan: India and Japan have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening maritime security cooperation and deepening defence ties during the visit of Defence Secretary of India Rajesh Kumar Singh to the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF) Kure Naval Base in Hiroshima, Japan.
During the visit, Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh held a meeting with Vice Admiral Matsumoto Tamotsu, Commandant of Kure District, JMSDF, and discussed avenues to further enhance bilateral defence cooperation between the two countries.
The interaction highlighted the growing strategic convergence between India and Japan, particularly in the maritime domain, where both nations continue to work closely towards ensuring a free, open and rules-based Indo-Pacific region.
Defence Secretary Visits JMSDF Stealth Frigate JS Niyodo
As part of his visit, Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh also toured the JMSDF’s 7th Mogami-class stealth frigate, JS Niyodo, gaining insights into the capabilities and operational features of the advanced naval platform.
The visit reflected the importance both countries attach to enhancing naval cooperation, information sharing and coordination between their maritime forces.
India-Japan Defence Partnership Continues to Expand
India and Japan share a Special Strategic and Global Partnership, with defence and maritime security cooperation emerging as key pillars of bilateral relations.
Both nations have been working together through:
