New Delhi / Jakarta : Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Jakarta, Indonesia, on a State Visit, where he was received with a special gesture at the airport by President Prabowo Subianto. In a notable diplomatic welcome, four Indonesian ministers were also present on arrival to greet the Prime Minister.
This visit marks PM Modi’s first bilateral trip to Indonesia since the relationship between the two countries was elevated to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in 2018, underscoring the growing depth and momentum in India–Indonesia ties.
An accompanying op-ed by Dr. B. Bala Bhaskar, former Ambassador to Norway, highlights a broader geopolitical shift—arguing that while the 20th century was defined by control over energy resources, the 21st century will be shaped by access to rare earth elements and critical minerals. It notes that PM Modi’s visit signals a transition from a transactional engagement to a more forward-looking strategic and high-technology partnership between India and Indonesia.
