New Delhi : Droupadi Murmu attended and addressed the convocation ceremony of All India Institute of Medical Sciences Nagpur in Nagpur on April 15, 2026, emphasizing the noble and compassionate nature of the medical profession.
In her address, the President described medicine as more than just a career, calling it a pathway to serve humanity with empathy and dedication. She highlighted that doctors not only treat illnesses but also provide hope and emotional strength to patients and their families. Stressing the importance of mutual respect, she noted that trust between doctors and patients is essential and must be upheld even in challenging situations.
She underlined that the health of citizens is crucial for national progress, alongside individual well-being. Referring to government initiatives over the past decade, she said that expanding healthcare infrastructure has been a priority to ensure a healthier and more productive society.
The President appreciated the establishment of new AIIMS institutions across the country, stating that they have significantly improved access to quality healthcare and medical education. She commended AIIMS Nagpur for emerging as a prominent centre for medical education, research, and advanced healthcare services within a short span of time.
Highlighting global advancements, she said the healthcare sector is witnessing rapid transformation through technologies such as artificial intelligence, digital health systems, and cutting-edge research. She urged institutions to embrace these innovations to bridge the gap between rural and urban healthcare and ensure equitable access to quality medical services. She also acknowledged AIIMS Nagpur’s efforts in this direction.
Speaking about the responsibilities of medical professionals, the President said that doctors enjoy immense trust and respect in society, and therefore must always prioritize the well-being of their patients. She emphasized that ethical values, compassion, and integrity remain indispensable, regardless of technological progress.
Encouraging young graduates, she stressed the importance of lifelong learning, curiosity, and innovation in the medical field. She urged them to continuously seek knowledge and remain committed to research and excellence, while always maintaining a patient-centric approach.
Concluding her address, the President said that serving in the medical field is a privilege and a responsibility.
