New Delhi: The Embassy of Iran in India has shared an official statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Iran outlining Iran’s position on maritime security in the Strait of Hormuz.
According to the statement, lasting peace and stability in the region can only be achieved if the activities of the United States and Israel are halted. Iran emphasized that it follows the principles of the UN Charter and international law, and has consistently worked to maintain stability across key maritime areas, including the Persian Gulf, the Strait of Hormuz, and the Sea of Oman.
The ministry stressed that freedom of navigation in the region must go hand in hand with respect for the sovereignty and rights of countries bordering these waters. It added that any decision or arrangement related to maritime security should be taken in coordination with Iran and must consider its national interests.
Referring to recent tensions, Iran claimed that military actions by the United States and Israel have created a dangerous situation in the region, affecting the safety of shipping routes. It called for an immediate end to what it described as destabilizing activities and threats in order to restore normalcy.
The statement further said that Iran, exercising its right to self-defence, has taken steps to prevent what it called “aggressor nations” from using the Strait of Hormuz for hostile purposes. As part of these measures, vessels linked to such countries have reportedly been restricted from passing through the strategic waterway.
Iran reiterated that ensuring long-term stability in the region requires respect for international law, regional cooperation, and an end to military escalation.
