New Delhi : The Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) has launched a three-week Sansad Sampark Abhiyan aimed at meeting Members of Parliament from both Houses to discuss several key national concerns.
Addressing a press conference, VHP Secretary General Bajrang Lal Bagra said the campaign began earlier this week and will continue until March 27. Under the initiative, VHP representatives will meet MPs from across the political spectrum to deliberate on three major issues they believe require national attention.
Bagra explained that the outreach programme is usually conducted during the Winter Session of Parliament, but this year it is being held during the Budget Session because the previous winter session was relatively brief.
Focus on Population Policy
One of the main topics the VHP plans to raise is the need for a comprehensive national discussion on population balance. Bagra said that while earlier governments have taken steps in this direction, there is now a need to examine the issue in greater detail and formulate a robust National Population Policy. He emphasized that such efforts should involve public participation and include measures related to women’s empowerment, improved healthcare services, and balanced demographic development.
Development of Pilgrimage Centres
The organization will also highlight the importance of developing pilgrimage centres across the country. According to Bagra, these sacred sites play a significant role in India’s cultural and spiritual identity while also contributing to the economy through tourism and religious activities.
He suggested that steps should be taken to promote the development of these centres and proposed the creation of a dedicated department within the Ministry of Culture to oversee the comprehensive development of pilgrimage destinations.
Constitutional Provisions
As a third issue, the VHP plans to urge lawmakers to ensure that the provisions of Articles 29 and 30 of the Indian Constitution are applied equally to all citizens. The organization also intends to call for greater clarity regarding the definition of the term “minority.”
Campaign in Three Phases
The outreach campaign will be conducted in three phases. The first phase will run from March 9 to March 13, the second from March 16 to March 20, and the final phase from March 23 to March 27. During this period, VHP representatives from various states will visit New Delhi to meet MPs from their respective regions.
Bagra said the organisation will interact with legislators from all political parties, presenting its views openly and encouraging dialogue on the issues raised.
The press conference was also attended by Ambrish Singh.
