New Delhi : Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez has cautioned against escalating military action related to the emerging Iran War, recalling the long-term consequences of the Iraq War.

According to media reports, Sánchez said that more than two decades ago, under the leadership of the United States, several countries were drawn into a military campaign in the Middle East. At the time, the intervention was justified as an effort to eliminate alleged weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, promote democracy, and strengthen global security.

However, the Spanish leader noted that the outcomes were very different from those expectations. He pointed to increased security challenges across Europe, the rise of jihadist terrorism, a worsening migration crisis in the Eastern Mediterranean, and a significant surge in global energy prices.

Sánchez stressed that past experiences should be carefully considered when assessing current geopolitical tensions and potential military actions in the Middle East.
