Lok Sabha Speaker Calls UPSC a Pillar of Nation Building Anchored in Merit and Integrity

New Delhi : Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla today praised the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) as a key pillar of nation-building, known for merit and integrity. He spoke at the inaugural session of UPSC’s Shatabdi Sammelan in New Delhi, celebrating the Commission’s 100-year journey as a vital part of India’s democratic and administrative growth.

In his address, Shri Birla said that UPSC, rooted in merit, transparency, and ethical values, has inspired millions of young Indians to serve the country. He highlighted that as India moves toward becoming a developed and inclusive nation by 2047, the role of UPSC is more important than ever. He noted that in today’s digital age, with artificial intelligence (AI) and a rapidly changing global landscape, UPSC has modernized its processes, making selection more scientific, transparent, and fair.

The Speaker emphasized that by giving equal opportunities to talent from diverse social and geographic backgrounds, UPSC has strengthened India’s democracy through honesty, merit, and transparency. He called its century-long journey not just an administrative history but a story of UPSC’s vital role in governance, development, and public service delivery, which has built strong public trust in India’s administrative system.

Shri Birla added that over the past 100 years, UPSC has helped millions of young Indians serve the nation with knowledge, hard work, and ethical values. He said the Commission reflects India’s diversity by allowing talent from various social, linguistic, and regional backgrounds to rise in public service.

He expressed confidence that the centenary year would give UPSC fresh energy and direction, preparing a new generation of public servants who will help build a developed, innovative, and globally leading India.

Shri Birla also congratulated former and current UPSC chairpersons, members, officers, and staff for their contributions.

The event was attended by Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh, other dignitaries, and UPSC Chairman Dr. Ajay Kumar, who delivered the welcome remarks.
