Chandigarh :  The Director General of Police (DGP) of Haryana, O.P. Singh, paid tribute to martyred police personnel by laying a wreath at the Police Memorial in Madhuban, Karnal, on Thursday. The Guard of Honour presented arms as a mark of respect. The DGP said, “A great police force always remembers its martyrs, its predecessors, and police families.”

DGP Singh clarified his initial priorities regarding the welfare and work culture of the police force. He stated that the Officers’ Wives Association (OWA) will be strengthened to create a supportive, positive, and stress-relieving environment among police families. “The effort will be to improve the family environment, and the OWA should act as a ‘shock absorber’in the stressful life of the police,” he said.

He mentioned that about
70,000 police personnel are working in the Haryana Police, and including their families, this number goes up to approximately four to five lakhs. “Our endeavor is to improve the living environment of police personnel—housing, facilities, counseling, and the support system will be organized,” the DGP stated. He also added that stress is a part of police work, but institutional measures will be taken so that police personnel do not resort to extreme steps like suicide under any circumstances.

Speaking on law and order the DGP said that CsP/SsP/DCsP and SHOs must maintain tight control over the system in their respective jurisdictions. Crowd management during protests, demonstrations, processions, and celebrations must be improved. Regarding crime control, he said, “We must keep the supply chain of criminals and fraudsters strong right up to the jail and continuously send them to jail in an organized manner. Their continued presence outside is neither in their interest nor in the interest of the general public.”

On this occasion, several officers were present, including the Director of the Haryana Police Academy, Arshinder Chawla, Additional Director General of Police Dr. M Ravi Kiran, DIG (HAP) Surender Pal Singh, IPS Mohit Handa, Superintendent of Police Karnal Gangaram Punia, and Superintendent of Police of HPA, Pushpa.
