MOTIHARI: Imagine a virtual walk with Mahatma Gandhi in Champaran, the place where father of nation experimented his ‘truth and non violence’ his well acclaimed arms during his Champaran Satyagrah in
1917. The dream will soon come to life in the sprawling fields of ‘ Gandhi Maidan’ in Motihari located in front of historical district collectortae office – a testimony of Brish rule and atrocities on indigo planters.
With a view to commemorate Father of nation on the occasion of Champaran centenary, district administration has planned to develop the Gandhi maiden as a ‘Heritage walk’ with all the information’s related to Gandhi visits in Champaran. District magistrate of east champaran Anupam Kumar said that tourists and public, though, will have to wait few months to enjoy the experience. He said that a detail reports is being prepared of an idea to ensure visitors to came across the history of Champaran Satyagrah in their 1.5 km walk on foot paths erected in the flanks of field,
which is already covered with eight feet heights of boundary walls.
The field is located in high security zone in Motihari as it has DM and SP residence in its surrounding along with police line. Along with a canopy to enjoy the visitors, a numbers of statues and stones embossed with the day to days activities of Mahatma Gandhi in Champaran reminding the events of Champaran Satyagrah and atrocities of indigo planters in just a 1.5 km walk will help us to attracts the foreign visitors too.
Right from the entry point of this field, the visitors will get to see rare arte facts of Champaran, rare photograph and personal memorabilia of father of nation. “ The concept of this heritage walk is to have event based story telling of the visit of Gandhi in Champaran. How and when he alighted at Motihari railway station on April 15, 2017 to his disobedience movement in Champaran”, DM said. He said I have conceptualized this idea and have discussed with a
delhi based technicians, who is said to have expertise in this field. After discussing and exploring more, he will get a detail project reports completed and send it to art and culture department. “ there isno any paucity of funds for the purpose. i have just to get a go ahead from department concern”, Kumar said adding state government has already announced Rs 54 crore for Satyagrah Centenery.
