New Delhi : The Defense Minister Rajnath Singh began his address in the monsoon session of Lok Sabha on Monday and presented the government’s stand in detail on Operation Sindoor. He described the military action after the Pahalgam terrorist attack as a symbol of India’s strategic capabilities and decisive leadership. With Rajnath Singh’s statement, this much-awaited debate began, on which the eyes of the country are fixed . It was his first official statement on the floor of the lower house about Operation Sindoor initiated against the terrorist training camps in Pakistan. Shri Singh strongly criticized the opposition leaders for asking irrelivant questions about Operation Sindoor.
Rajnath Singh said, “First of all, through this House, I salute those brave sons who are always ready and prepared to protect the borders of this nation. At the same time, I also pay my respects to the memory of those martyrs who sacrificed their all to ensure the unity and integrity of India. On behalf of the whole country, I express my gratitude to all the soldiers of the armed forces.” The Defence Minister said, “On 6 and 7 May 2025, the Indian forces carried out a historic military operation named ‘Operation Sindoor’. It was not just a military action, but it was an impressive and decisive demonstration of India’s sovereignty, identity, our responsibility towards the citizens and our policy against terrorism.”
Earlier, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said that it is wrong to say that Operation Sindoor was stopped under any pressure. He said that Pakistan contacted our DGMO and requested that the action be stopped now. This offer was accepted with the condition that this operation is only being stopped, if any misadventure takes place in the future then the operation will be started again.
Rajnath Singh said, “Before carrying out this operation, our forces studied every aspect in depth. We had many options available, but we chose the option in which the terrorists and their bases suffered maximum damage and there was no harm to the common citizens of Pakistan.”
He further said, “This was a well-organized and precise action by the Indian forces, in which 9 terrorist structures were targeted and destroyed. According to initial estimates, more than 100 terrorists, their trainers, handlers and associates were killed in this military action. Most of them were associated with terrorist organizations like Jaish-e-Mohammed, Lashkar-e-Taiba and Hizbul Mujahideen, which have the direct support of Pakistan Army and ISI.”
While answering the opposition’s questions in Parliament regarding ‘Operation Sindoor’, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh launched a scathing attack on the opposition leaders. Taking a jibe at the Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi in the Lok Sabha, he said, “The Leader of Opposition always asked how many of our planes were shot down by Pakistan, not even once did he ask how many enemy planes we shot down.”
Rajnath Singh said that the opposition should definitely ask questions, but the questions should be purposeful and in the national interest. He said, “The opposition’s question should be whether India destroyed the terrorist hideouts? The answer to that is yes. Was Operation Sindoor successful? The answer to this is also yes.” Advising the opposition, he said, “When our goals are big, we should not focus on small issues. Focusing on small issues diverts attention from big issues.” Rajnath Singh showed the mirror to the opposition and said that when the BJP was in the opposition, its behavior in and outside the Parliament was to ask meaningful questions to the government, the opposition should also have this attitude.
He said, “We have also spent a long time in the opposition, but then we asked meaningful questions to the governments.” Citing the example of the 1962 India-China war, the Defence Minister said, “We then asked how our land was occupied by another country? How did so many of our soldiers lose their lives? We did not worry about weapons or machines, but about the soldiers.”
He also mentioned former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and said, “When we taught Pakistan a lesson, Atal ji praised not just the government but the entire leadership in the House, which also included the opposition.” Taking a dig at the opposition’s arguments, Rajnath Singh said, “In any examination, the result matters. We should not worry about whether the student’s pencil was broken during the examination or not.” He reiterated that ‘Operation Sindoor’ was a successful and decisive
