Additional Municipal Commissioner Emphasises on Solid Waste Management and Water Conservation

Gurugram : Additional Commissioner of Municipal Corporation Gurugram Yash Jaluka held an important meeting with bulk waste generators (BWG) located in the municipal limits on Tuesday. The objective of this meeting was to clarify the responsibilities of BWG under the Solid Waste Management Rules-2016 and to speed up efforts to improve environmental balance.

Additional Municipal Commissioner said that units which generate 100 kg or more of waste per day or whose area is 5000 square meters or more, have been placed in the category of bulk waste generators. It is mandatory for such institutions and residential complexes to dispose of the waste in their premises itself. He said that BWG should separate the wet, dry and hazardous waste coming from their place into different categories at the primary level itself. Prepare compost from wet waste and use it for the greenery of the campus and ensure the disposal of dry and hazardous waste through an authorized recycling agency. According to an estimate, out of the waste generated daily in the Municipal Corporation Gurugram area, about 500 tonnes of waste is generated by bulk waste generators.

Message of ‘My Waste – My Responsibility’

In the meeting, the Additional Municipal Commissioner emphasized that the BWGs should not only adopt proper management of waste, but also ensure that the agencies to which they hand over the waste are disposing it properly and environmentally friendly. This policy strengthens the spirit of ‘My Waste – My Responsibility’. During the meeting, a video presentation of the best waste management being done by Park View Spa Society located in Sector-47 was also given, which showed the process and techniques adopted by the society. The Additional Municipal Commissioner also advised other BWGs to take inspiration from this.

Focus also on rainwater harvesting and property ID self-certification

In the meeting, emphasis was also laid on installing rainwater harvesting system in every premises under Haryana Building Code-2017 and ensuring its proper operation. Mr. Jaluka said that this step will prove helpful in reducing waterlogging in monsoon and improving groundwater level. Along with this, he also called upon all the representatives to actively cooperate in the Property ID Self Certification work. This effort of Municipal Corporation Gurugram is not only a step towards strengthening waste management in the city, but it also inspires citizens and institutions towards responsible citizenship. Through the meeting, a clear message was given to the BWG that they should be serious about waste management and water conservation and fulfill their responsibilities honestly.
