Gurugram : In preparation for the 11th International Yoga Day, a yoga camp was organized by the Prison Department and Ayush Department, Haryana in Bhondsi District Jail on Saturday morning. In the camp, a total of 3045 prisoners, including 2940 male prisoners and 105 female prisoners of District Jail, Gurugram, practiced yoga from 7 am to 8 am. On this occasion, Director General of Prisons Department Mohammad Aqeel, IPS, was present as the chief guest on behalf of the Haryana Government.
Director General Mohammad Aqeel inaugurated the yoga camp and wished the participants good health benefits from yoga practice. He appreciated the discipline of the prisoners and motivated them to remain disciplined in the jail and to master some skill in future by taking advantage of various programs being run in the prison. He wished the prisoners to go out and find good employment opportunities, leave the world of crime and lead a happy life for themselves and their families.
Dr. Brahma Prakash from the AYUSH department conducted yoga practice as per the International Yoga Day protocol. He said that regular yoga practice and pranayama not only makes the body healthy but also improves mental health. The team of the AYUSH department, comprising six yoga teachers, two female yoga assistants and four male yoga assistants, provided yoga training. From the security point of view, yoga practice was conducted at three different places: women of the women’s ward did yoga in the women’s ward, prisoners of Phase-1 did yoga in Phase-1 and prisoners of Phase-2 did yoga in Phase-2.
District Jail Superintendent Naresh Goyal welcomed Director General Mohammad Aqeel on his arrival at the camp. He informed that on International Yoga Day, June 21, mass yoga practice will also be conducted in the prison premises. Giving information about the facilities provided for the all-round development and welfare of the prisoners in the prison, he said that the kitchen system of the prison is very excellent, which provides nutritious food to the prisoners according to the time table. Also, a green and clean environment has been efficiently prepared in the prison. Along with yoga, two teams each of cricket and football have also been formed for the prisoners. In the field of education, there are centers of IGNOU and National Open School in the jail, where prisoners are given education of 10th, 12th, graduation and post-graduation level. Apart from this, various ITI courses like plumbing, electrician and computer are also run in the jail. He also expressed gratitude to the AYUSH department for the camp.
