New Delhi : Amid escalating tensions in West Asia, Iranian media has reported targeted strikes on key gas infrastructure, though officials maintain that the damage has been minimal and has not disrupted operations.
According to Fars News Agency, two gas-related installations and a pipeline were reportedly hit on Tuesday. The strikes come in the backdrop of recent remarks by former U.S. President Donald Trump, who indicated a temporary decision to avoid targeting Iran’s energy infrastructure.
Gas Facilities Targeted in Isfahan
The report stated that the Gas Administration Building and a gas pressure regulation station on Kaveh Street in Isfahan were among the locations affected.
Despite the attacks, Iranian authorities described the damage as “minor”, with no major operational setbacks reported. Notably, Fars remains the only outlet so far to confirm limited impact on these facilities.
Pipeline Near Khorramshahr Also Hit
In a separate development, a gas pipeline connected to the Khorramshahr power plant in southwestern Iran was also reportedly targeted.
Officials from Khorramshahr, which lies close to the Iraq border, confirmed that a projectile landed near the pipeline processing station. However, the city’s governor clarified that:
- No damage was sustained by the pipeline infrastructure
- Power plant operations remain unaffected
U.S. Signals Temporary Restraint
A day earlier, Donald Trump stated via his social media platform that the United States is actively pursuing de-escalation in the Middle East. He highlighted ongoing constructive engagement with Iran and revealed that instructions had been issued to avoid strikes on Iranian energy facilities for five days.
This move was seen as an attempt to reduce tensions in a region already grappling with conflict involving Iran, Israel, and the United States.
Iran Maintains Hardline Position
Despite signals of restraint from Washington, Iran has taken a firm stance, declaring that it will not retreat from the ongoing conflict.
Senior military advisor Mohsen Rezaei, associated with Iran’s Supreme leadership under Mojtaba Khamenei, outlined Tehran’s key conditions:
- Complete removal of economic sanctions
- Assurances of non-interference by the United States in Iran’s internal matters
Iran has made it clear that hostilities will persist until these demands are fulfilled and damages are compensated.
Rising Geopolitical Uncertainty
The developments highlight the fragile and volatile situation in West Asia, where energy infrastructure has increasingly become a focal point in the conflict.
While no immediate disruption to energy supply has been reported, continued strikes and retaliatory rhetoric raise concerns over:
- Regional stability
- Global energy markets
- Maritime and trade security
