Russia Urges Diplomatic Solution in Iran Conflict During Putin–Pezeshkian Call

New Delhi : Amid rising tensions involving Iran, the United States, and Israel, Vladimir Putin, President of Russia, held a telephone conversation with Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian. The discussion has drawn attention globally, with many speculating about Russia’s possible role in the evolving regional crisis.

According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, the conversation focused on the ongoing conflict and the broader security situation in the Middle East. During the call, President Putin reportedly urged Iran to work towards de-escalating tensions and pursuing diplomatic solutions to the conflict.

Details of the conversation were shared by the ministry through its official Telegram channel. The Russian side stated that Putin conveyed his deep condolences over the deaths of senior Iranian figures, including Ali Khamenei, Iran’s Supreme Leader, as well as members of his family and several military and political leaders. He also expressed sorrow over the loss of civilian lives caused by attacks carried out with US and Israeli weaponry, according to the statement.

The Russian Foreign Ministry further noted that Putin reiterated Moscow’s long-standing position that regional disputes should not be resolved through military force. He emphasized the need for an immediate reduction in hostilities and called for a return to diplomatic negotiations to address issues concerning Iran and the broader Middle East.

Putin also informed the Iranian President that he has been maintaining regular contact with leaders of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) to discuss the evolving situation and regional stability.

During the conversation, Masoud Pezeshkian thanked Russia for its expressions of solidarity with the Iranian people. The Iranian side also briefed the Russian President on the latest developments related to the conflict.

According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, Iran reiterated that it is defending its sovereignty and independence, while both leaders agreed to maintain close communication through various diplomatic channels as the situation continues to develop.
