New Delhi: India welcomed several prominent leaders from the Global South as they arrived in the national capital to participate in the 18th BRICS Summit, being hosted by India.
Minister of State (Independent Charge) Jayant Singh received and welcomed President Cyril Ramaphosa of South Africa and Vice President Jessica Alupo of Uganda upon their arrival in India. Welcoming the visiting leaders, Singh said India looks forward to working with its Global South partners to strengthen cooperation and advance a more inclusive, equitable and sustainable global future.
Vice President of Nigeria
also arrived in New Delhi to attend the BRICS Summit. He was received at the airport by Minister of State Shantanu Thakur. India and Nigeria share longstanding and multifaceted relations, supported by strong people-to-people ties. Shettima’s visit is expected to provide further momentum to bilateral cooperation across various areas.
Meanwhile, President of Egypt Abdel Fattah el-Sisi arrived in New Delhi to participate in the 18th BRICS Summit. He was received at the airport by Minister of State Sanjay Seth.
The arrival of the leaders reflects the growing importance of BRICS as a platform for cooperation among emerging economies and countries of the Global South.
Their participation in the summit provides an opportunity to discuss issues including economic cooperation, trade, development, energy, technology, food security and reforms in global governance.
India’s hosting of the summit also places emphasis on strengthening the voice of developing nations and promoting a more balanced, representative and sustainable international order.
