At ACMA’s 66th Annual Session, Heavy Industries Minister highlights localisation, advanced technology and cleaner mobility as key to Viksit Bharat 2047
New Delhi : Union Minister for Heavy Industries and Steel H.D. Kumaraswamy said India must move beyond being a participant in the global mobility market and play a leading role in shaping its future as the country advances towards Viksit Bharat 2047, envisioned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Kumaraswamy was the Chief Guest at the inaugural session of the 66th Annual Session of the Automotive Component Manufacturers Association of India (ACMA) in New Delhi, which brought together policymakers, diplomats, industry leaders and automotive executives to discuss ways to strengthen India’s integration with global automotive supply chains. The annual session, organised around the theme “Beyond Resilience”, focused on the performance of India’s auto component industry and its long-term growth strategy.
Delivering the special address, Kumaraswamy highlighted the government’s efforts to promote local manufacturing, domestic value addition and technology adoption across the automotive ecosystem. He said the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme for automobiles and auto components is producing encouraging results by supporting investment, advanced technology manufacturing, higher domestic value addition and the transition towards cleaner mobility.
Addressing a large gathering of Industrialists and manufacturers of Auto Sector Union Minister for Heavy Industries and Steel underlined that the automotive and auto component industries will remain crucial to India’s journey towards Viksit Bharat 2047, particularly as the country seeks to build globally competitive manufacturing capabilities.
The Indian auto component sector recorded a turnover of approximately ₹7.6 lakh crore (US$85.9 billion) in FY2025-26, registering 12.7% year-on-year growth. The industry has set its sights on reaching a valuation of around US$200 billion by 2030.
The sector’s performance was supported by a 16.3% rise in component supplies to Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs), while exports reached a record US$24 billion.
Findings from an ACMA-BCG survey presented at the annual session indicated that around 90% of component industry executives, covering large, medium and small enterprises, consider the prevailing business environment favourable for continued expansion. 
Opening the proceedings, Vikrampati Singhania, President of ACMA and Managing Director of JK Fenner, said the industry had demonstrated considerable resilience while dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic, supply-chain disruptions, geopolitical tensions, commodity-price volatility and rapid changes in mobility markets.
He stressed that while resilience enables businesses to respond to disruptions, leadership requires the ability to shape change, and India should now focus on establishing itself as a global force in the automotive sector.
The annual session also featured keynotes from SIAM President and Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Managing Director Shailesh Chandra, CII President and Tata Chemicals Managing Director R. Mukundan, and Maruti Suzuki India Managing Director Hisashi Takeuchi.
Discussions focused on the industry’s transition towards Industry 5.0, with particular emphasis on robotics, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT), advanced manufacturing and workforce skilling.
The deliberations also examined how Tier-1 and Tier-2 suppliers can adopt emerging technologies and strengthen their capabilities to become part of increasingly sophisticated global automotive supply chains.

In essence, the message from the 66th ACMA Annual Session was clear: India’s auto component industry must now move “Beyond Resilience” towards global leadership, using technology, localisation, skilled talent and international trade opportunities to help shape the future of mobility.
