New Delhi : Ambassador Nebiyu Tedla, Chargé d’Affaires at the Embassy of Ethiopia, met Joint Secretary Shri Amitabh Prasad in New Delhi on Wednesday to discuss ways to further deepen defence cooperation between India and Ethiopia.
The discussions focused on expanding collaboration in areas such as military training, defence industry cooperation and United Nations peacekeeping operations, while also exploring opportunities in new and emerging areas of mutual interest.
The meeting comes as India and Ethiopia continue to broaden their defence partnership. The two countries held their first-ever Joint Defence Cooperation meeting in New Delhi in October 2025, where they discussed cooperation in training, joint military exercises, medical cooperation and defence industry engagement.
India and Ethiopia share close and friendly bilateral relations, with historical links dating back nearly 2,000 years. Their modern diplomatic engagement has steadily expanded across political, economic, development, education, capacity-building and security sectors. India has been a long-standing partner in Ethiopia’s development journey and also provides training and capacity-building support to Ethiopian professionals.
Cooperation in UN peacekeeping has also emerged as an important area of engagement. In 2025, the two sides moved forward with cooperation between India’s Centre for United Nations Peacekeeping and Ethiopia’s International Peace Support Training Institute, reflecting their shared interest in strengthening peacekeeping training and capabilities.
The latest discussions underline the growing momentum in the India–Ethiopia strategic partnership, with both countries seeking to diversify defence engagement and strengthen cooperation in traditional as well as emerging security domains.
