Belgrade: Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs and Minority Affairs Kiren Rijiju called on Đuro Macut, Prime Minister of the Republic of Serbia, at the Palace of Serbia in Belgrade during his visit to the Serbian capital. The two leaders exchanged warm greetings and discussed ways to further deepen the longstanding and friendly relationship between India and Serbia.
During the meeting, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cooperation across areas of mutual interest, building on a partnership rooted in mutual respect, friendship and shared interests. Discussions also focused on enhancing people-to-people contacts and expanding bilateral engagement in the years ahead.
India and Serbia share a historically close relationship that dates back to the era of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), of which both countries were founding members. The friendship between India’s first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru and former Yugoslav President Josip Broz Tito laid the foundation for enduring ties that continue to guide bilateral relations today.
Rijiju is leading the Indian delegation at the High-Level Commemorative Meeting marking the 65th anniversary of the First Conference of the Non-Aligned Movement, being held in Belgrade under the theme “The Legacy of Non-Alignment: Lessons for Today’s World.”
The meeting reflects the shared commitment of India and Serbia to further strengthen their partnership and explore new opportunities for cooperation while preserving the spirit of friendship that has defined relations between the two nations for decades.
In essence, the interaction highlighted the enduring India–Serbia partnership and both countries’ resolve to deepen cooperation based on their longstanding friendship and shared global outlook.
