New Delhi /Beijing : National Security Adviser Ajit Doval arrived in Beijing on Monday for a two-day visit to participate in the 25th round of Special Representatives’ talks on the India-China boundary question.
Doval, who is India’s Special Representative for the boundary issue, is scheduled to co-chair the talks with his Chinese counterpart and Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Tuesday, August 25. China’s Foreign Ministry has confirmed that the two sides will hold the talks in Beijing.
The Special Representatives’ mechanism serves as the principal channel for negotiations on the India-China boundary question and also provides an important platform for discussing bilateral, regional and international issues of mutual interest.
The upcoming round assumes significance as India and China continue efforts to stabilise bilateral ties following years of tensions along the Line of Actual Control (LAC). The previous, 24th round of talks was held in August 2025, during which the two sides held detailed discussions on the boundary question and reached several common understandings.
During the latest round, the two sides are expected to continue discussions on the boundary issue and work towards maintaining peace and tranquillity in the border areas, in line with understandings reached by the leadership of the two countries. They are also expected to exchange views on bilateral relations as well as regional and international developments.
Doval is also scheduled to call on Chinese Vice President Han Zheng during his visit.
The talks come amid broader efforts by New Delhi and Beijing to consolidate recent progress in bilateral relations and maintain stability along the disputed border. The two countries have continued diplomatic engagement since relations came under severe strain following the 2020 Galwan Valley clash and the subsequent military standoff in eastern Ladakh.
