New Delhi/Tehran: Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian held a telephone conversation on Tuesday, reaffirming their commitment to strengthening bilateral ties and expanding cooperation through multilateral platforms such as BRICS.
During the conversation, President Pezeshkian congratulated India on successfully hosting the BRICS Energy Ministers’ Meeting and expressed hope that cooperation between Tehran and New Delhi within the grouping would continue to grow. He said the longstanding relationship between the two countries, built on historical ties and mutual respect, provides a strong foundation for expanding collaboration in political, economic, trade, transit and international affairs.
The Iranian President also underlined the need for closer coordination to unlock the full potential of bilateral relations. Referring to the convergence of views between the two countries on several regional and global issues, he said the shared understanding could help deepen strategic cooperation and strengthen comprehensive engagement.
Discussing the regional security situation, Pezeshkian referred to the agreement aimed at ending recent hostilities and stressed the importance of all parties honouring their commitments. He said Iran remains committed to the agreement and called for collective international efforts to promote lasting peace, stability and security in the region. The Iranian President also appreciated India’s constructive approach and acknowledged Prime Minister Modi’s efforts in supporting regional peace and cooperation.
Prime Minister Modi conveyed India’s condolences over the loss of lives in the recent conflict in Iran and reiterated New Delhi’s support for initiatives aimed at ensuring peace and stability in West Asia. He emphasised that lasting peace in the region is essential not only for the countries directly involved but also for global stability.
The Prime Minister also welcomed the progress made by BRICS in advancing cooperation among member nations and extended a formal invitation to President Pezeshkian to attend the upcoming BRICS Leaders’ Summit, which will be hosted by India. Both leaders expressed confidence that continued dialogue and multilateral engagement would further strengthen India-Iran relations and contribute to regional and global cooperation.
