India, Japan Hold Wide-Ranging Talks at 16th Annual Summit, Adopt Three Landmark Agreements

New Delhi : India and Japan have reaffirmed their commitment to deepening their Special Strategic and Global Partnership, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi holding comprehensive discussions during the 16th India-Japan Annual Summit in New Delhi. The Japanese Prime Minister arrived in New Delhi late Wednesday night for a three-day official visit.

The two leaders reviewed the full spectrum of bilateral relations, with talks covering trade and investment, economic security, energy cooperation, emerging technologies, defence collaboration and people-to-people exchanges. They also exchanged views on key regional and global developments of mutual interest, underscoring the importance of close coordination on shared strategic priorities.

Both countries adopted three landmark documents aimed at strengthening cooperation in critical sectors.

These include the Joint Declaration on Economic Security, the Joint Statement on Cooperation in the Field of Artificial Intelligence, and the Joint Statement on Energy Resilience, reflecting the growing strategic convergence between the two nations in addressing emerging global challenges.

Prime Minister Modi and Prime Minister Takaichi also witnessed the exchange of several Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) and agreements covering economic security, clean energy, critical technologies, and research and development, further expanding bilateral cooperation in high-priority sectors.

In addition, the two sides agreed on a comprehensive calendar of activities to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between India and Japan, highlighting the enduring friendship and the shared commitment to taking the partnership to new heights.
