Gurugram : A high-level review meeting on sewerage management and waterlogging in Gurugram was held under the chairmanship of Pradeep Dahiya, Commissioner of the Municipal Corporation Gurugram, with officials directed to fast-track work at critical locations ahead of the monsoon season.
Focus on Critical Waterlogging Points
During the meeting of the Sewerage Management Cell (SMC) and Monsoon Management Cell (MMC), it was revealed that out of 40 identified problem areas, 12 highly critical points require immediate attention. Delays were noted in sewer line laying, drainage upgrades, and desilting works in key areas such as Sector-10, Basai, Naharpur Rupa, Indira Colony, and Tigra.
The Commissioner issued strict instructions to concerned departments to accelerate pending works and ensure timely completion. Joint Commissioners were also asked to conduct field inspections of completed works and submit photographic reports.
Pre-Monsoon Preparedness Intensified
Emphasising monsoon preparedness in Gurugram, officials were directed to complete all essential works before the rainy season. Measures include CCTV inspection of sewer lines, deployment of ‘Super Sucker’ machines, and timely desilting of drains. Quality checks for works up to ₹25 lakh were also mandated.
Coordination Among Agencies
The meeting highlighted the need for better coordination between civic agencies. Directions were issued to address issues related to National Highways Authority of India along the stretch between Umang Bhardwaj Chowk and Hero Honda Chowk. Officials from Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority were asked to ensure cleaning of street traps, culverts, and drainage channels connected to MCG systems.
Safety Measures in Waterlogged Areas
Taking note of safety concerns, the Commissioner stressed the need for electrical safety during waterlogging, suggesting relocation of junction boxes to safer heights (8–10 feet) in vulnerable areas to prevent accidents.
Timely Completion a Top Priority
Reiterating the civic body’s commitment, Pradeep Dahiya stated that providing a long-term solution to Gurugram’s drainage and sewerage issues remains a priority, with strict timelines and quality standards to ensure residents do not face inconvenience during the monsoon.
