New Delhi : Iranian Foreign Minister Saeed Abbas Araghchi has strongly condemned an alleged attack by the United States on an Iranian vessel, calling the incident a serious violation of international maritime law.

In a statement, Araghchi said the Iranian ship had travelled to India at the invitation of the Indian government and was present in the region as an official guest. According to him, the vessel was unarmed and being used for training purposes, carrying officers participating in a naval training mission.

The Iranian foreign minister stressed that attacking an unarmed ship carrying training personnel amounts to a war crime, adding that such actions violate internationally accepted maritime norms and legal frameworks governing naval conduct.

Araghchi further warned that the precedent set by the United States through this alleged attack could seriously undermine global maritime law and international naval protocols. He stated that incidents involving unarmed training vessels raise significant concerns about the safety of maritime operations and adherence to international rules at sea.

The statement comes amid heightened geopolitical tensions in the region, with countries closely monitoring developments related to maritime security and international law.
