New Delhi :  Union Minister for Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare and Rural Development, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, has released the first advanced estimates for Kharif crops for 2025-26, projecting a record increase in production. Total food grain production is expected to rise by 3.87 million tonnes, reaching 173.33 million tonnes.

Kharif rice production is estimated at 124.504 million tonnes, and maize at 28.303 million tonnes, showing significant growth from last year. Total Kharif coarse cereals are expected at 41.414 million tonnes, pulses at 7.413 million tonnes (including tur, urad, and moong), and oilseeds at 27.563 million tonnes, with peanut and soybean production showing notable increases. Sugarcane production is projected at 475.614 million tonnes, while cotton and Patson/Mesta are estimated at 29.215 million bales and 8.345 million bales respectively.

Shri Chouhan noted that while some areas experienced excess rainfall, most regions benefited from good monsoon rains, contributing to overall healthy crop growth. These estimates are based on yield trends, state-level data, and regional observations, and will be updated once actual crop-cutting data is available. Detailed figures are accessible at upag.gov.in
