- The real reason for sewer overflow in many areas came to the fore – cement bags, big stones, plastic and polythene filled with garbage became a big blockage
- Cases came to the fore during intensive cleaning in many areas including Rajendra Park, Anjana Colony, Indira Colony, strict action will be taken against anti-social and mischievous elements
Gurugram : Citizens were facing the problem of sewer overflow for a long time in many areas like Rajendra Park, Anjana Colony, Indira Colony, Surat Nagar, Daulatabad Industrial Area and Vishnu Garden. Now after intensive cleaning by Municipal Corporation Gurugram, the main reason for this problem has come to the fore. Heavy and unwanted objects like cement sacks, plastic sheets, quilts-mattresses, big stones and polythene bags filled with garbage have been found in the sewerage line, due to which the sewer was overflowing.
While removing these obstructions, the teams of the Municipal Corporation said that due to these items the sewerage system was getting jammed, which was hindering the process of drainage. Due to this, the citizens were constantly facing the problem of overflow and despite the regular efforts of the Municipal Corporation, the problem was not being resolved.
Sewerage cleaning campaign continues on war footing in Ward-34

The teams of the Municipal Corporation are engaged in sewerage cleaning work day and night in Rajendra Park, Vishnu Garden, Surat Nagar, Daulatabad Industrial Area and other areas falling under Ward-34. Ward Councilor Surekha Chauhan herself is present on the spot and monitoring the work. Apart from this, Gurugram MLA Mukesh Sharma, Mayor Raj Rani Malhotra, and Municipal Corporation Commissioner Pradeep Dahiya are also constantly inspecting the spot and playing an active role in making the sewerage system smooth.
Pouring garbage in sewerage and drainage is a crime – Municipal Commissioner
Municipal Corporation Gurugram Commissioner Pradeep Dahiya took a tough stand on this and said that deliberately throwing garbage or any other heavy object in sewerage and drainage lines is a punishable offense. He said that we are working day and night for the convenience of the citizens, but if some anti-social elements spoil the system, they will not be spared under any circumstances. Strict legal action will be taken against the culprits once they are identified. He also appealed that citizens should not only become complainants, but also support the Municipal Corporation team by becoming allies and help the administration in identifying such people who throw unwanted objects in the sewerage. The Municipal Corporation has also made it clear that if any such incident is repeated in the future, then surveillance will be increased in the concerned areas, and the culprits will be identified and brought under the legal ambit.
Citizens say that this problem is not only administrative but also social. Unless every citizen takes the responsibility to make himself and others aware, such efforts will remain incomplete. The strict step taken by the Municipal Corporation is commendable, but public cooperation is extremely necessary in this. This campaign to make Gurugram clean and organized can be successful only when the society also walks shoulder to shoulder with it.
