Gurugram : Haryana’s Industry and Commerce Minister Rao Narbir Singh held an important meeting with the officials of Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) in Gurugram on Tuesday. In the meeting, the progress of development works related to road, water supply, drainage and sewerage in the city was reviewed. In this meeting held at PWD Rest House located in Civil Lines, he gave clear instructions to the officials that the works of civil infrastructure should be completed on top priority and expeditiously so that the general public can be ensured smooth facilities.

Industry and Commerce Minister Rao Narbir Singh, after taking a detailed report of the progress of development works from the departmental officials in the meeting, directed that the work of construction of footpaths and streetscaping along the master roads should be done with best quality. He clearly said that tiles should not be used on the footpaths because their life is short. Footpaths should be made in such a way that they are durable. Along with this, he directed to submit the upgrade DPR of South Peripheral Road (SPR) soon. Rao said that slip roads on master roads should be developed in a systematic manner so that traffic is smooth and there is no problem of jam at the intersections. The Cabinet Minister also discussed the poor condition of the road from Basai Sector-10 to Bhukteshwar Chowk in the meeting. He directed that a proper plan for the improvement of road and drainage in this part should be prepared as soon as possible. Apart from this, orders were given to solve the problem of potholes from Umang Bhardwaj Chowk to Hero Honda Chowk immediately. During this, the Cabinet Minister also gave instructions to keep all the escalators on all foot overbridges (FOBs) in working condition.

In the meeting, GMDA Chief Engineer Arun Dhankhar informed that all the roads of Gurugram city have been divided into 4 zones. Sector 1-23, 24-80, 81-90 and 95-115. The work of repairing damaged roads and recarpeting master roads is being done on a war footing by the authority. So far more than 100 kilometers of roads have been repaired. Apart from this, notification of those parts of the roads which have been freed from court dispute is also being prepared so that better connectivity can be ensured.

– Significant improvement in water supply in areas of old Gurugram

In the meeting, the officials informed that by starting the water purification plant (WTP) Unit-4 located at Chandu Budhera, 90 MLD additional water supply is being provided. Due to this, the total water supply in the city has increased from 570 MLD to 660 MLD. There has been a significant improvement in water supply in Sector 81-115 and areas of old Gurugram. The construction of Unit-5 (100 MLD) will be completed by December. At the same time, tender has been issued for Unit-4 (100 MLD) of WTP Basai. The Industry and Commerce Minister praised this work and said that full preparation should be ensured to meet the estimated demand of 1170 MLD water supply in Gurugram by 2031 so that clean drinking water is available to the citizens.

Rao Narbir Singh stressed in the meeting that the highest attention should be given to flood relief measures during the monsoon. Regular cleaning of all the drains of GMDA should be ensured so that there is no problem of waterlogging. He also directed to widen the mouths of roads, streets and drains so that rainwater can drain out quickly. During this, he reviewed the progress of cleaning of temporary raw drains and bridges by NHAI in Narsinghpur area. He said that a permanent solution should be found to the problems of IFFCO Chowk, Sikandarpur and other identified waterlogging sites. GMDA Executive Engineer Vikram Singh said that sufficient machinery and pump sets have been deployed by allocating work to agencies for flood control. Drainage work is in progress on Rajiv Chowk, Sector 17/18 Master Road, Ghata to SPR Sector 55/56, and Tau Devi Lal Stadium to Subhash Chowk road. The minister said that cleaning of Leg 2 and Leg 3 drains should be expedited. He clarified that pumping machinery should be used only as a temporary solution and permanent drainage infrastructure should be developed wherever waterlogging occurs repeatedly.

Rao Narbir Singh said in the meeting that the problems of sewerage drainage are serious in the villages located in the corporation area in Gurugram. Regular cleaning of the sewerage network should be ensured and it should be connected to the internal sewerage network so that the drainage of all areas is well organized. Superintending Engineer Praveen Kumar said that as per the instructions of the last review meeting, more than 10 kilometers of sewerage line has been cleaned. The Environment Minister also directed the officials to conduct tree plantation campaigns intensively to improve the air quality of the city and increase greenery. GMDA officials said that MoUs are being done to develop greenery on Dwarka Expressway, IFFCO Chowk to SPR, Laser Valley Park, Rampura Chowk and other master roads.

Chief Engineer Arun Dhankhar, R.S. Jangra, Superintending Engineer Sudhir Rasliwal, Praveen Kumar, Faisal Ibrahim, Executive Engineer Vikram Singh, Abhinav Verma and other GMDA officials were present in the meeting.
